Cabinet Approves Import of 15,000 Metric Tons of Maize in Sri Lanka

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the State Trading (General) Corporation to import maize to meet the demand for poultry feed production, the Department of Government Information (DGI) said.

The decision has been reached as a temporary measure to overcome the shortage of raw materials required for the production of poultry feed due to insufficient stocks of maize available in the market, according to the DGI.

Accordingly, the Department of Animal Production and Health has issued the relevant permit to the State Trading Corporation to import 15,000 MT of maize to fulfill the requirements for poultry feed production.

The proposal for the procurement of maize from registered foreign suppliers through the State Trading Corporation was presented to the Cabinet by President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policy.
