Farmers Encouraged to Start Backyard Poultry for Sustainable Livelihood

Varanasi: The 8th three-day backyard poultry training workshop organised under Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) at the faculty of veterinary and animal Sciences, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, Barkachha, Mirzapur, concluded on Saturday.

The workshop included selection of socio-economically weaker sections and their training and ensuring the primary availability of essential components required for early support for their poultry farming in rural areas of Vindhya region for sustainable livelihood of socio-economically weaker sections.

Speaking on the occasion, former director, Disease Control and Farms, Department of Animal Husbandry, UP Amarendra Nath Singh emphasized on the importance of cooperation in poultry farming and the role of poultry in the production of eggs and meat.

A distinguished scientist, Prof. Guru Prasad Singh, highlighted various dimensions and importance of poultry as well as animal husbandry. Sharing his experiences from the region, he encouraged farmers and women to start backyard poultry for their sustainable livelihood and secondary source of income.

The dean of the faculty, Prof. Naresh Kumar Singh, encouraged the organizers to participate in such events in the future and join the faculty in large numbers to benefit from them.

Workshop organizing secretary Utkarsh Kumar Tripathi explained the benefits of poultry farming and the nature of backyard poultry farming in the economic balance of the family and presented a summary of the three-day training workshop. Co-organizing secretary Anuradha Kumari apprised the participants of the importance of participation for women in the project and called upon women to adopt it as a profession.

More than 47 beneficiaries had registered for participation, of whom priority was given to women and unemployed youth.

The participants were selected from the rural areas of Danti, Lal Ganj, Manihan, Bahauti, Kotwa Pandey, Rajgarh, Birmapur, Belhara and other areas. A book ‘Backyard Poultry Farming’, published under the project, was also distributed to the participants on the occasion.
